Children’s House

(3-6 years)

Understanding the needs of each stage

The Child

Children from birth to the age of six possess an “absorbent mind”. The 3 to 6 year old child is undergoing a process of self-construction.

The method

The classrooms are filled with a variety of Montessori materials which are presented with a learning objective. They are encouraged to move, play and explore. This carefully prepared environment encourages and promotes the development of the child towards independence, concentration, sequential thinking and controlled physical movement.

We encourage sensory development, introduce math and language concepts, and we provide the right environment to develop practical skills they need in everyday life.

To be sure that your child has all the benefits of a Montessori experience, the family should commit to the full three year Montessori cycle in the same classroom.

The first year is an exploration and adaptation during which they will receive a large number of individual presentations and will also learn how concentration, order, self-discipline and social interaction work. During the second year of Montessori education your child is encouraged to explore their environment more independently. Your child has more confidence than the first year and is usually able to work for longer periods of time. During the third year, all experiences are synthesized. Your child is solidified and really understands all the knowledge he or she has been soaking in the previous two years. Your child becomes an example for other children to follow.

Learning Areas

The Children’s House classroom is designed to be a three-year program consisting of children three to six years old. In this context, children learn to respect the work of others and their personal space, take an active role in maintaining their environment, which is divided into five main areas: practical life, sensorial, language, mathematics and culture.

The curriculum is enriched with activities such as music, sports, yoga, gardening, ecology, cooking and art. Each activity responds to the critical need for children to move, independence and language. Students are immersed in English as their first language throughout the day.
